Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Programme

Description of the Project

The Government has been promoting Entrepreneurial & Innovative ecosystems in Universities/Colleges/Polytechnics/ITIs using EDII-TN as the implementing organisation. Entire funding is given by the Government. EDII-TN has been implementing this scheme of the Government since 2016-17. Various entrepreneurship development programmes are planned and implemented for faculty, students and alumni of the constituent institutions. A hub and spoke modelled scheme with functional hubs established under Engineering Colleges, Arts and Science Colleges, Polytechnic Colleges and ITI's. Tamil Nadu Student Innovators (TNSI) challenge programme has been introduced among students to encourage them to create intellectual property rights and commercialisation of their inventions. The total number of higher educational institutions covered under the scheme in Tamil Nadu is 1700.

Capacity Building Programs

  • Master Trainers Training Programme: Trains senior faculty to develop and deliver entrepreneurship curricula and mentorship.
  • District Programme Managers Training: Enhances leadership and organizational skills for district programme managers.
  • Top Management Meet: Engages academic leaders in fostering innovation and strategic partnerships.
  • Faculty & E-Club Leaders Development Programs: Equips faculty and student leaders to effectively manage Entrepreneurship and Innovation (E&I) Cells.

Workshops and Development Activities

  • IED Cell Creation Workshop: Online state-level workshops on establishing innovation and entrepreneurship development cells.
  • Faculty Development Programme (FDP): Week-long training to enhance teaching and mentorship skills.
  • Idea Generation Workshops: Focus on specific entrepreneurship domains like media, marine, agripreneurship, technology, and women entrepreneurship.

Hackathon and Prototype Support

  • Programs like Hackathons, Boot Camps, and Final Pitches for student teams to refine and showcase innovative ideas.
  • Financial and mentorship support for prototype development.

Recognition and Networking

  • Annual recognition for hubs, E&I Cells, and mentors contributing significantly to entrepreneurship.
  • Exposure visits to startups, MSMEs, and global innovation hubs for insights and networking.

Funding and Support

  • Idea Bank: A platform to secure and exchange innovative ideas.
  • Business Innovation Seed Fund (BISE): Financial aid for students to develop and commercialize ideas.
  • Start-Up Clinics: Support for struggling startups through tailored mentoring and resources.

Student-Centric Activities

  • Promotional events for outgoing students to inspire entrepreneurial careers.
  • Training programs for student mentors in entrepreneurial activities.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

  • Campaigns to educate participants on IPR protection, legal frameworks, and value capture.

Accelerator Programs

  • Two-day training for alumni and innovators on company registration, IPR, and business operations.
